I have a quick question on what tools and how to accuratly supercede the steering gear box on a 1997 chevy suburban. I accept done this on an earlier model truck but not on a burban. Anybody that I have talked to is telling me that I would need a torch to do this. Is this true because I don't currently own a torch. Thought about getting ane simply don't have the funds as of right now. Whatever answer would help.

Thank you,

I've done this on my 99. I can't imagine it'd be much different on a 97 (or that a torch would be necessary).

3 bolts adhere the box to the driver's side framerail. You can get to them through the wheel well or by removing the splash baby-sit at the front of the engine.

This may help:

Good luck.

unless the bolts are rusted badly u shouldn't need a torch. remove the three frame rail bolts and the lines going in. Make certain to marker the pitman arm before taking it off to be sure to become it on straight once again. yous volition demand a puller for the pitman arm also....

you nearly likely wont need a torch....its a hurting in cervix chore only you'll be glad you did it yourself....accept out the three bolts that concord it to the frame......take the fluid lines off and plug them with something so you dont get dirt in there....yous need a pickle fork to pop the pitman arm off the draglink....do that, so lift the box out and swap pitman arms in a bench vice.

Utilize a 5lb sledge when using the picklefork to carve up the pitman arm from the centerlink. A hammer won't cut information technology.

I had the one on my 1992 replaced last wintertime, would not turn correct when common cold. Took the ASE tech about iii.5 hrs to do it, I never heard whatsoever hammering.

I could not locate a used i (winter) and had to go AC Delco rebuilt.

a hammer works for me everytime...sometimes on a tough front cease part i'll grab a framing hammer.
